Getting Started

Welcome to TileForge! To help you learn the ropes, we put together a short tutorial that gives you the basic functionality of the builder. By the end of this tutorial you should know enough to go into the app and build a basic map.

Logging In

To log into the app, all you need is a Discord account. If you don't have a Discord account already, you can create one here: {link}

Creating your first map

Upon logging in for the first time, you'll be greeted with a simple dashboard. You have the following options:

To create your first map, click New Map and enter a name for your map and a description, if you'd like. It will call your map "New Map" by default, so make sure to change it to something that's easy to identify.

Click "Create Map" and you will be automatically redirected to the builder.

First load of the builder

Because TileForge is a web-based app, the first time that you load the builder all of the assets need to be transferred from the database and stored in your local cache. This means that the first load can be significantly slower than the second load.

If you find yourself waiting for longer than 20-30 seconds for the first load of the builder, try refreshing the page. It should load in quickly after that.

<aside> 💡 Note: If you're using any browser or add-on that blocks local caching, consider turning it off to speed up loading. If the app can't access your local cache, it must request the files every time the builder loads (10-20 seconds).

UI at first glance

Once loaded, you'll see five distinct sections of the UI:
